Erosion and deposition impact the biogeochemistry of an ecosystem, but what are the effects on soil microbiology? A research team that includes SWAC faculty members Satoshi Ishii and Michael Sadowsky compared the bacterial communities in eroding, depositing, and control zones in China’s Loess Plateau. They found that while erosion reduced soil bacterial richness, much of the loss was recovered in the depositional zones.
