January 28, 2:00 PM

SOIL 415 & Zoom

Join us for the first SWAC Seminar of the semester, featuring three alumni from the Land & Atmospheric Science program. Luis Allen, Emma Link, and Allison Serakos Jeneson will share their experiences of life after graduating from the program with time for Q&A at the end of the seminar. About the speakers:

Luis Allen is an Environmental Specialist and Project Manager with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, where he leads petroleum contamination investigations and remediation efforts across Minnesota. He holds a B.S. in Environmental Science, Policy, and Management and an M.S. in Land and Atmospheric Science from the University of Minnesota, with graduate research focused on water quality and nutrient movement. His work centers on science-based decision-making, environmental justice, and collaboration with communities, consultants, and partner agencies to protect human health and the environment. Outside of work, he enjoys gardening with Minnesota native plants to support pollinators.

Emma Link graduated with a masters in soil science from SWAC in winter of 2023 and joined Practical Farmers of Iowa later that year. They are currently the research manager for PFI's Cooperators' Program. In this role, Emma works with field crop, fruit and vegetable and livestock farmers to co-design on-farm research trials, and to analyze and interpret results.

Allison Serakos Jeneson solves client problems at Barr Engineering Co. in regulatory, environmental review, and sustainability programs. She specializes in assessments related to climate change and life-cycle GHG accounting; air dispersion modeling; meteorological data analysis; emission calculations; and systems programming. For multiple public and private clients, Allison has performed both qualitative and quantitative GHG, climate change, and risk assessments for regulatory applications and sustainability program development. She holds a Master of Science degree in Land and Atmospheric Science from the University of Minnesota and conducted research on climate dynamics.
