Hydroclimate extremes and tree rings in California

In California, oak trees suffer and thrive in response to the dramatic moisture variability inherent to the state’s climate regimes. In this presentation, I will summarize my research group’s efforts to harness the investigative power of California oak tree rings. With a process-oriented framework and statistical rigor, our tree ring data will be shown to provide critical and potent perspective on long-term hydroclimate variability, extreme events widely reported during the 21st century, and the rapidly unfolding trajectories of climate-coupled productivity in terrestrial and marine ecosystems.
