Manure Nutrient Management & Water Quality

Research

Due to potential issues with pathogens and excess nutrients being transported to our waterways, it is imperative to manage manure in a safe and environmentally sound manner. My research program focuses on two aspects: 1) evaluating manure handling techniques that reduce impacts on water quality and 2) filling knowledge gaps about manure nutrient cycling as farming practices and technologies change.

Extension

The ultimate objectives of my Extension program are to build awareness and increase adoption of manure handling best management practices in the state, increase connections and dialogue with stakeholders, improve the economic activity and sustainability of farms, and progress towards cleaner water for Minnesotans. My program is informed by stakeholder needs so that I can conduct innovative research and provide timely, science-based education to those involved with and impacted by manure management in Minnesota.
