November was a celebratory month for SWAC. The 2023 ASA-CSSA-SSSA International Annual Meeting, often referred to as the Tri-Societies meeting, led to many awards to members of the department, from students to faculty.

Zac Aanerud (Ph.D. student with Fabian Fernandez) received 2nd place in the Ph.D. student competition of the Soil Fertility and Plant Nutrition Division of SSSA.

Yuxin Miao received the Tengtou Agricultural Science Award from the SSA.

Fabian Fernandez received the Diversity Trailblazer Group SSSA Presidential Award.

Carl Rosen delivered the Leo Walsh Soil Fertility Distinguished Lectureship

To round out the month, the Soil Judging Team successfully met their fundraising goal for Give to the Max Day. After placing 2nd at Regionals in October, they will be headed to the National competition in the spring with the help of these funds. Thank you to all those that supported this award-winning team as they engage in hands-on learning in the field.

Congratulations to all our award-winners this fall.
