Farmers make decisions on a daily basis, and on longer seasonal and annual timescales. They integrate information on tillage and cover crops, managing water and nutrients, and more—all with the bottom line in mind. In a new study, SWAC postdoc Dr. Suzi Clark and her co-authors found that for climate data to be usable by farmers, it should be practical and lead to better economic outcomes like increased crop yields and lower risk. “We need to present these strategies as cost-benefit and risk minimization tools, and support the farmers financially while they adopt these strategies,” says Clark. According to the study, "information collected from this study will be used to develop the Dashboard for Agricultural Water use and Nutrient Management (DAWN).” Read the recent publication in Geoscience Communication
